Ontario has designated the week of November 14-18th as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment. During Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, students at Good Shepherd will be learning more about bullying and its effect on student learning and well-being. We will renew our commitment to treat everyone with dignity, kindness and respect and promote a safe, welcoming and positive school environment for all. We will also be using the books, Have You Filled a Bucket? by Carol McCloud and How Full is Your Bucket? by Tom Rath to promote positivity. Students will be working toward filling their buckets all week and beyond.
All classes will also be participating in BRAVE Workshops. Kindergarten and Primary students will participate in “Setting Healthy Boundaries” workshops and Junior and Intermediates will be participating in “Bullying, Conflict, and Relationships” workshops.
We have organized the following events to raise awareness and prevent bullying:
Mon., Nov. 14 – Kindness Monday: Perform a random act of kindness and spread the message that kindness matters. Students will receive recognition for these acts throughout the week.
Tues., Nov. 15 – Red Day: Wear RED to put a STOP to bullying. Stand up for yourself and your friends; don’t be a bystander.
Wed., Nov. 16 – Mismatched Shoes and Socks Day: Wear 2 different shoes or socks today. Think about what it is like to “walk in someone else’s shoes”.
Thurs., Nov. 17 – Superhero Day: Dress like a superhero to celebrate that we can all be heroes when we stand up for ourselves and our friends and say that bullying behaviour is not okay.
